(From Lindsey)
I completely agree with you Happy Veggie. I was an intern with the Wellness Forum in Columbus Ohio and the executive director (Dr. Pam Popper) is a great vegan naturopath/holistic doctor. She gets her information from long term research and she works closely with Dr. T Colin. Campbell of the China Study. This is what she has to say about Raw Diets, I think you will be happy:

"There are no scientific studies proving health benefits of a raw food diet. Population studies involving the connection between diet and health have not found people consuming cooked foods to be deficient, and the successful dietary intervention programs for which there is published research have not used raw food diets as a tool (the work of Dr. McDougall, Dr. Swank, Dr. Ornish, Dr. Barnard, Dr. Esselstyn and others). The fact is that eating a strictly raw food diet does not provide adequate calories daily unless people eat significant amounts of fat in the form of nuts and seeds, avocadoes and other such foods.

Including raw foods in the diet in the form of large salads and fresh ripe fruit is advisable, but there is no formula for a specific percentage of the diet that should be raw."

Just wanted to share that with you: she answers other common great questions and if you are interested I recommend this link:

http://www.wellnessforum.com/commonquestions.html

She also was part of the documentary coming this summer called "forks over knives."

Take care and keep up the greatttt work!!!

OMG I soooo could not agree more :) Really the last thing I want to do when its cold, is eat cold veggies and the closest Raw foodist place is about 3 hours from my house. Summer time, I am happy to eat raw from the farmers market....but thats about as much raw as works for me.

Great post. I would really like to learn why exactly it is raw purists are against heating water or coffee or tea. Or even oatmeal for that matter. Bringing warmth to you inside by way of food and drink is, at least in Eastern Medicine an important healing method(perhaps similar to Ayrvedic medicine, though I do not know).
