tattoo

Many vegans have tattoos. And many are unaware of the fact that they may not be vegan tattoos. For the most part, tattoos are vegan. Most of the inks are derived from iron and copper. However, black ink is generally not vegan. Black, also known as “Bone Black” is animal bone burned down to charcoal. There are tattoo artists who only use vegan ink, but it’s not the norm. So be sure to check with the tattoo shop before you get inked. If they don’t know what the ink contains, it’s probably not vegan.

Thanks for the info. I am vegan and was planning on getting a large piece done in black, white and grey. I wouldve have been devastated to find out later that I had animal bones on me forever!

Wow! I’m really shocked – why do they use animal bones for black ink?! I can’t believe that. I have two tattoos with black ink and I am Vegetarian, almost Vegan. Thanks for the info – not exactly sure what to do now though.

Ha ha. I’m a lactose intolerant vegetarian. Thus, I am, bordering on veganism, but I still occassionaly eat honey etc.

This information caught my eye because I have numerous tattoos and when I got my first tattoo, very young, people tried with all their might to convince me to have them in black ink. As stubborn as ever, all my tattoos are in an electric blue ink. I have naturally very pale milky skin, though I am health perfect, and the electric blue on a backdrop of translucent white makes a lot of people look. I’m so glad I went with blue, not simply after reading this information, but more so because of it.

Is all black ink made of animal bones?

being online isn’t vegan.. having a computer isn’t vegan.. having energy sources isn’t vegan…

you just can’t be vegan 110% of the way…i know this already because i’ve been studying it for ages…

    how is that possible?

i’ve been an accused vegan for 34 years…. (and a vegetarian many before that.)

    so what…. nobody’s perfect.

most processed vegan food is not vegan…(read that label! amazing..)

so on and on.. it could go on for pages.

this was helpful thanks, is it ALWAYS not vegan if its black? i was sort of torn between green or black for the tattoo im getting soon, so this has definately swayed me towards green!
obviously as long as thats vegan.

i just wanted to say to elvistron, that i know what they mean about how i mean even driving in a car, the fuel was probably tested on animals, and even washing your clothes, in this pointlessly cruel world theres even a chance animals were harmed in the making of your washing machine. but by striving against all these facts we can work together to eliminate them. thats why its always worth thinking “wait, that has been tested on animals, i will NOT use that, and tell people not to use it” rather than taking a “well im gonna harm an animal one way or another so oh well” sort of attitude.

well done on being vegan for so long, but you shouldnt take a “nobodys perfect so so what” approach.

Most black tattoo ink is NOT made from bone. I am vegan and have been since ’06. It takes constant study to discover that a lot of vegans are fed a lot of BS. Most black tattoo ink is pigmented with nickel or iron (which is cheap), not bone (which is more expensive). Think about it, what is easier/cheaper, getting metal from from the dirt, or killing a cow, then butchering it, burning the bones and collecting only the black part of the bone coal? (which requires making a coal oven too). Oh, and most wine contains…..grapes and water (not bones)… :-)
    Love you guys!

    peace!

Skip Hop Studio Diaper Tote Tote is awesome. So quite a few wallets – as well as not those little, worthless pockets, either. Almost all of the actual pockets are a good size and truly aid maintain every thing organized. The handles are a wonderful length and fit nicely over the actual shoulder; the handle straps also remain place on my own arm, which is crucial when you’re taking a baby. The tote appears great, too. Not as well fancy, but not as well casual. (I have it in black) The material is soft (can’t think of a better word) so it’s simple to squeeze in to tight spaces – but yet it’s sturdy. I’ve a Fleurville Lexi carry and I love it, too, but this handbag is actually kind of inflexible. I believe that Skip*Hop can turn out to be my everyday bag. It is a bit big – so if you’re not in to significant totes this may well be better as an over-night diaper bag.
